Draw the summer blues away

Posted in Coloring Pages at 9:21 pm by steven

It is middle of summer and the 4th of July is a pleasant memory, now the kids are coming to you with the dreaded phrase that all parents hate to hear, “I’m BORED!”

This would be a great time to encourage them to draw.

Wouldn’t it be nice to let them go outside and draw the first thing they see or anything they like about that summer’s day? (Now there’s a scrapbook keeper!)

Kids love lots of color, so anything from chalk on the sidewalk to markers on giant paper works for young kids. Older kids may like to upgrade from the marker scene to some vibrant colored pencils or pastels and a sketch pad.

Art can be a year ‘round thing, and another great way for you and your kids to fill your summer with colorful memories.

Happy Drawing, :-)

Coloring Pages Are Fun! Part 1- Disney Coloring Pages

Posted in Coloring Pages at 7:19 pm by Lisa

Hi, I’m Lisa. This is the first post in my Little Art Blog series of the best online coloring pages for your child (and you!) that I’ve found.

I grew up drawing, coloring and painting when we all still used paper, crayons and paint instead of high resolution monitors with 256 bit color. But even though crayons are still as popular today, I have to say that online coloring pages are fun and one of the better offerings of cyberspace for young kids.

Most sites are safe, and can give even young kids a basic introduction to the computer in a positive way with their parent’s guidance. Besides, painting a cartoon coloring page is engaging & relaxing, even for big kids like me! (Yes, I admit it…one can only read so many news bites!)

To start off, try out this one from Disney-go.com for kids around 4 and up:

Disney Magic Artist At this fun site, kids can find free coloring pages of Disney characters to print out or color online. Your kids will find all their favorite characters including:

Winnie the Pooh coloring pages

Disney Princess coloring pages

Little Mermaid coloring pages

Finding Nemo coloring pages

(I also love this site’s bells & jingles when clicking around!)

Happy Coloring!

How to Draw Dragons, Fairies and Elves…Oh My!

Posted in Fantasy Drawing at 6:26 pm by Lisa

Hey, my little art blog is finally up and running. Time to jam up cyberspace with my drawing and painting related ramblings and lots of other insanity which I’m sure is of no importance whatsoever to the broader art world, at least on this planet.

Let’s clear this up first: I’m not an advanced artist- just someone who likes to draw, and always trying to improve. Somewhere within the madness to come will be some cool drawing sites, interesting history, and advice from experienced artists for you to use. So whatever planet you’re from, thanks for reading.

Speaking of other worlds, I’ve been going through a phase lately with fantasy drawing. I’ve been drawing dragons, gargoyles, elves, fairies, and similar otherworldly beings & can’t get enough of it.

Anything I usually draw, like cats, birds & other indigenous wildlife, are becoming all “mystical” looking. My geek meter has always been close to the red zone, but it’s now coming through in my drawing & I love it. Why did it take me so long? The Other Realms have so much more to offer, you know?

This is so far the coolest site I’ve found and use for learning how to draw fantasy characters & it’s great for teens and up:

DragoArt

You can learn anything here from how to draw fairies to every kind of elf known to man (and some known only to monkeys), and tips on drawing a dragon step by step.

For kids, here’s a place they can easily create simple dragon drawings, draw a mermaid, fairies, a unicorn and more step by step and at their own pace:

DrawingNow

Well, enough time spent in reality for now…thanks for reading,
